Living Room
Living Room is Arturo Vidich, Lily Skove, Aki Sasamoto.
A site-specific living installation for three performers investigating definitions of domestic spaces, and the dichotomy between private and public arenas, such as a privately owned garden that people can look into from the street. The performers use their bodies as a medium, interfacing with their surroundings, their minds following along for the ride.

This play has one actress. It is a monologue about consumerism and 9/11, told by a mentally ill woman in a 24-hour grocery store at 4AM, a few days after the attacks. It has been performed at NYU (Marathon of New Works & Grad Student Arts Fest); Chashama (Oasis02 & Theaters Against War Freedom Follies) and Makor (92nd St. Y Fest).

“Jukebox Jazz” a program curated by Martha Colburn from her collection of scopatones.
Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Lena Horne-these are some of the stars of the 16mm musical films shown in film-jukeboxes in the 1940s-’50s. With their hillbilly hits, saucy European songs, stripteases, and more they made music-film/video history. Their innocence, inventiveness, humor and views on sexuality and race are historically informative-and entertaining!

The flash animation work World of Awe: PORTAL, commissioned by Turbulence.org, for which I composed the sound track (including the piece Yours Forever), has been selected to a few recent festivals. Among them: The 5th Seoul Net & Film Festival May 1 September 22, 2004; the Video Zone biennial in Israel, up-coming in November 1724; And and up-coming festival in San Paulo, Brazil (no date set yet).

On Thursday, August 5, at Riverside Church, NYC, my ‘Song of Miriam’ will be performed by the Locrian Chamber Players with the wonderful mezzo Hai-Ting Chinn. ‘Song of Miriam’ is an excerpt from ‘Mosheh’, a video-opera in progress. It is a lullaby, sung by Miriam to her baby brother, Moses, who is hidden in a basket flouting on the water of the River Nile. Admission is free. www.locrian.org

“Memoryflesh 2.0: a Micro Media Record” by Diane Ludin

“Memoryflesh 2.0” is an assemblage of media montages–driven by live “fake suturing” performances–that implies a variety of stories about the human genome’s emergence as a voice of scientific authority. The project’s purpose is to generate a concrete, bodily response to a disembodied, public process.
“Memoryflesh 2.0: a Micro Media Record” is a 2004 commission of New Radio and Performing Arts, (aka Ether-Ore) for its Turbulence web site. It was made possible with funding from the Jerome Foundation. Additional support provided by Harvestworks Artist in Residence program and Thing.net.

Ms. Arneson is an interdisciplinary artist (writer/director/performer/painter) renowned for plays about girlhood, sexuality and American archetypes, including MARY MARGARET PLEASE APPEAR, DEGRADE SCHOOL, HOMELAND SECURITY and TEN BEDROOM HEART. She has performed as featured artist for Franklin Furnace and Dixon Place in NYC, N.A.M.E. in Chicago, Cleveland Performance Art Festival, and nearly every venue in Minneapolis, including Red Eye, the Walker, The Weisman and the Southern. She is a recipient of the Bush Artist Fellowship, Franklin Furnace Emerging Artist Award, and Core Alumni of the Playwrights’ Center. Her writing was recently chosen for publication in the book New Monologues by Women for Women (Willamette University). She teaches CreativityWorkshops in the Twin Cities which sharpen public speaking skills, expand creativity, dissolve fears and build community.

SSamzie Space is proud to present the exhibition XEN: Migration, Labor and Identity, by Yong Soon Min, a U.S. based Korean American artist and curator. In this exhibition, including her performance with Allan deSouza, a South Asian artist with a British background, Min addresses issues of migrant labor that affect the Korean economy and culture at large, and compares the recent foreign migration of labor into Korea with the long history of Korean emigration. Through multi-media installations, incorporating video, photography, and sculpture, the exhibition explores the relationship of identity to migration particularly with regards to Korean responses to foreign migrant workers.
