Peggy Diggs, FF Alumn, will have a new installation (“Resolution Room”) at IN TRANSIT: FROM OBJECT TO SITE, an exhibition and symposium to be held in the List Visual Art Center ( 64 College Street) at Brown University in Providence, RI. The show runs from September 9 – October 22. The opening reception is September 16, 5:30-7:30pm. There will be a symposium on installation art on September 23, 11am to 5pm in List Art Center Auditorium, and will feature Julie Reiss, Ondine Chavoya, Erika Suderburg, Anne Pasternak, and Bill Arning.

Peggy Diggs is having photographs included in an exhibition at Jim Kempner Fine Art in Chelsea in September. The show, “The Message is the Medium” runs from September 9 – September 30, and is an exhibition of unique works, limited edition prints & multiples. It’s being curated by Marshall Reese, FF Alumn
This exhibit of recent editioned works is a multivalent look at the currents and crosscurrents shaping our society since September 11, 2001.
The exhibit reflects the underlying gestalt and pathos in American society observed in governmental policies around national security, surveillance, the war in Iraq and around social issues of civil rights and immigration.
The exhibition title “The Message is the Medium,” is a direct reference to media theorist Marshall McLuhan and his book (with Quentin Fiore) The Medium is the Message. The title refers to the theories and impact of the media in shaping politics and art, and to the importance of art (the message) in shaping meaning from and about political events.

3. Lynn Swanson, FF Alumn, shooting role of Edith Frank at Italia Films, Roma
In collaboration with 263 Films Milano, director Dario Picciau and a team of 35 artists, Lynn Swanson is creating the voice and expressions of Edith Frank (via 95 reflective facial markers and state-of-the-art motion capture photography) for a 3D animated film loosely based on the experiences of the Frank family in hiding in Amsterdam during WWII. She is also acting/dubbing coach for other actors participating. The film, entitled “Dear Anne”, is expected to be released in spring 2007.

Lee Gordon is the Featured Cover Visual Artist, with a special insert containing selections of his Self Portrait Series, in the Special Issue “The Messy Self”, of The Massachusetts Review. This issue is of special interest because it includes a never before published play by Wendy Wasserstein.

D IRECT ACTION WORKSHOP Mission
Build awareness, communication and understanding
between diverse cultures through personal storytelling
In DIRECT ACTION WORKSHOP,
inmates participate in theater and writing exercises,
develop a performance piece based on their life-stories,
and learn skills for success: how to connect, communicate, concentrate and cooperate.
At culmination of the workshop,
inmates present their work in a live performance
for an audience of up to 100 of their fellow inmates at the correctional facility.
As clients utilize the creativity,
self-discovery and discipline involved in developing live performance, they improve their self-awareness, self-esteem and public speaking skills, and their likelihood of finding employment, maintaining strong relationships and connecting with supportive communities upon release.
The ultimate goal of the workshop is to reduce recidivism.

Heidi Arneson, Director of Direct Action Workshop, is a multidisciplinary artist renowned for her one-person plays about American Archetypes and for her to nurture creativity. She uses personal storytelling as a means for social transformation. She has performed her plays, Ten Bedroom Heart, PreHansel &Post Gretel and DeGrade Schoo l in New York, Chicago, Denver, Merced CA, Winnipeg and nearly every venue in the Twin Cities, including the Walker, Weisman, Jungle, Southern and Red Eye. She is a recipient of the 2006 Minnesota State Arts Board Grant to complete her novel, The Flying Boy. She is also a recipient of the Bush Artist Fellowship, Franklin Furnace Emerging Artist Performance Artist Award and Core Alumna of the Playwrights’ Center.

IDAHO FILM COLLECTION TO SHOOT DOCUMENTARY ABOUT NELL SHIPMAN IN PRIEST LAKE STATE PARK
The Idaho Film Collection, housed at Boise State University and headed by BSU Professor Tom Trusky, along with Pretty Good Productions of Coeur d’Alene, will shoot the final documentary for an upcoming collection about early film pioneer Nell Shipman. Shooting will take place Aug. 16 at Priest Lake State Park.
The documentary, “At Lionhead Lodge,” will round out the Nell Shipman DVD Collection, a series published by the Idaho Film Collection. The final installment, Vol. III, will include all of the films Shipman made in Idaho and one made in Washington, and will also include the documentary and other extras.
Shipman was a silent film star, director, editor and producer who came to Idaho in the early 1920s and established a film camp, Lionhead Lodge, on Priest Lake. She made one feature film there and a number of shorter films. Shipman’s films are known for always featuring a woman as the hero, usually assisted by an animal actor. Shipman was known for her humane treatment of animals and for her love of the environment, location shooting and independent filmmaking.

Gearoid Dolan a.k.a. screaMachine presents:
“Separate”, a series of performances with installations on the streets and in the parks of the East Village and Lower East Side, New York, New York: August 4th and 11th (with raindates of August 6th and 13th).
Two performers will inhabit locations in city parks, traverse the streets between the locations and sleep the night in the parks. Each is accompanied by video projections: the performers, as they walk slowly down the streets, carry video projectors slung around their necks, projecting animated images onto the ground ahead of them. Each drags a weighted milk crate behind them as they navigate the streets and sidewalks. Each performer remains alone, separate, dragging his weight alone and separately inhabiting the city parks.
August 4th: 8pm, performer Gearoid Dolan sets out from Tompkins Square Park (9th St. & Ave A), navigating his way to S.D.R. Park (Stanton St. & Forsyth St.). At approximately 9pm, he enters S.D.R. Park and settles down for the night, illuminated by continuous video projections.August 4th: 8pm, performer Fergus Kelly sets out from S.D.R. Park and makes his way to Tompkins Square Park, where he spends the night illuminated by continuous video projections. The performers will cross paths at about 8:30pm on 1st Ave, near 4 th Street.
August 11th: 8pm, performer Gearoid Dolan sets out from Peter Cooper Park (7th St. & 3rd Ave), navigating his way to East River Park (10 th St. & East River). At approximately 9pm, he enters East River Park and settles down for the night, illuminated by continuous video projections.
August 11th: 8pm, performer Fergus Kelly sets out from East River Park and makes his way to Peter Cooper Park, where he spends the night illuminated by continuous video projections. The performers will cross paths at about 8:30pm on 7th St. near 2nd Ave.
