Susana Cook’s 100 Years of Attitude constructs an allegory of worldly crisis which constantly jumps the divide between the surreal and the commonplace. Latin American Magic Realism meets Global Logic Terrorism in this frenzied clash of sanctifiers, executioners, lesbian homeowners, and some very undistinguished guests – all fighting to make their way in one queer land of make believe. This epic tale of love, valour, and staged compassion follows the family of women as they venture beyond death and silence to embark on a 100-year journey in search of progress and their very own dramatic reappearance.
Cook welcomes you to a world of adaptation and civilization – gone awry – as only she could tell it. Her artistic approach has been described as Argentinean-Butch-Political-Performance-Art and, as with all of her work, 100 Years of Attitude deftly combines political satire, dark humor, and non-traditional branches of theater, to create this tour de force of biting social commentary. Come celebrate the release of LTTR Issue 3, PRACTICE MORE FAILURE!
With LTTR’s third issue, themed “Practice More Failure,” editors K8 Hardy, Emily Roysdon, and Ginger Brooks Takahashi seek to enthuse process and practice as opposed to the masterpiece. An annual collectively made art journal, LTTR brings together a community of queer and feminist artists, writers, and cultural producers.

Explosion LTTR will focus on artists working together and a community dedicated to critical feminist practice. Inhabiting Art In General’s project space from July 17 -August 5 with teams of artists collaborating, the storefront is transformed into the LTTR headquarters where practice becomes public.
Live art, performance lectures, new collaborations, and a film/video screening will be presented in a series at Art in General, Participant Inc. and Reena Spaulings Gallery.

Machine Project announces “Untitled War”, a medieval battle staged inside the gallery space. On July 17 from 6 to 8pm, armored warriors will engage in gut wrenching, full-contact combat with assorted melee weapons.
“Untitled War” is a performative event combining fantasy role-playing, fabricated history, extreme sports, and computer games, where warriors of various historical periods from the Society of Creative Anachronism will endure an ongoing First Person Shooter Game style Deathmatch battle. Live camera views (similar to the spectator camera views found in online FPS games) will be projected next door at the Echo Park Film Center, creating a game-like viewing experience for those outside the space.
“Untitled War” is the latest project by artist and uber-gamer Brody Condon (www.tmpspace.com). Working in the mystical confluence of contemporary art practice, computer games, and historical combat re-enactment, Condon’s work is engaged in locating and fabricating situations and visual works where computer games and game culture leak outside of the screen and into lived experience. He was a authorized fighter in the SCA, and his personal and collaborative work has recently been exhibited at the 2004 Whitney Biennial, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the New Museum of Contemporary Art. The Society for Creative Anachronism (www.sca.org) is an international medieval re-enactment group, which selectively re-creates the historical period from approximately the latter Roman era to 1650 A.D.
Existing to encourage the heroic experiments of the gracefully over-ambitious, Machine Project presents workshops, events, installations and performances on a semi-regular basis. The gallery is located in Los Angeles at 1200 D North Alvarado Street, just north of Sunset. Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday from noon to five, as well as by appointment. “Sun & Moon” At The Southern Theater In Minneapolis
Sun & Moon, an original work by Chinese choreographer Shen Pei and interdisciplinary artist Marcus Young, is a modern reconsideration of one of the oldest Chinese myths. An ancient myth about chasing the sun becomes a modern metaphor for humanity’s exploration of space and eternal pursuit of knowledge. This world premiere work brings together Chinese and western dance traditions, with NY dancer hangdong Xu and talented twin cities artists, to create a blend of east-west artistry.

Peggy Shaw’s take on the compliments? As she muses in her one-woman show, To My Chagrin: “I’ve been accused of being masculine. I’d like to talk to you man-to-man about that.”
Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater is proud to present the New England Premiere of To My Chagrin, Peggy Shaw’s critically acclaimed provocative performance piece. Wearing a red satin tuxedo jacket and short slick flattop, Shaw’s freewheeling theatrical journey, with Vivian Stoll on drums, explores gender hypocrisy, racism, sexism, societal norms, growing older, a search for self-identity and the two important loves that guide her life – her mixed-race grandson and old cars - all accompanied by the music of Otis Redding, James Brown, Sam Cooke and Frank Sinatra. Shaw describes the show as a “butch grandmother’s rock ‘n roll lullaby.” To My Chagrin opens Wednesday, June 30, and runs through Saturday, July 24. Performances are at 8 p.m.; there will also be a 4 p.m. matinee on July 24. (This performance is in addition to that evening’s performance.)
Shaw was born in Belmont, MA. She worked as a social worker and artist before making her stage debut at 31. In 1980, Shaw, along with Lois Weaver and Deb Margolin, founded the lesbian theatre company, Split Britches. Shaw has won three Obie Awards and teaches classes and workshops at colleges nationwide.
To My Chagrin will be directed by Lois Weaver, with lighting by Emily Stork and sound by Vivian Stoll.
