3. Helen Varley Jamieson, FF Alumn, in Bremen, Germany, March 12

the world premier of…
Lagging with the Lololols by Avatar Body Collision
at the
Virtual Minds Congress
Bremen, Germany
8pm (local time), Friday 12 March 2004
Lagging with the Lololols is a surreal journey across the multiple platforms of cyberspace, a recombinant collage of virtual identities and an ironic examination of the possibility of spiritual transcendance via technology. Lagging with the Lololos is staged using two live-stage performers, together with webcams and the Palace chat room software. The narrative moves across and between live stage, chatroom, and webcam, creating a new spatial performance mode described as cyberformance. Cyberformance is live art: everything takes place in real time, nothing is pre-recorded.

Performed by:
Leena Saarinen [Bremen/Helsinki]
Karla Ptacek [Bremen/London]
Vicki Smith [Hari Hari]
Helen Varley Jamieson [London]

What are the implications for artists using DNA and genetically modified organisms as their media of choice? How do we view today’s alliances of science and art?

Speakers include:

6. Penny Arcade, FF Alumn, at The Evidence Room, Los Angeles, March 12

Penny Arcade at The Evidence Room in LA
Friday March 12th 8:30pm $15
2220 Beverly Blvd
213-381-7118
(directions below)

“Penny Arcade is provocative, intellectually stimulating, perceptive and hilariously funny! She combines the pathos of Judy Garland with the anarchy of Lenny Bruce”*****” – Edinburgh List

“Comedy of scorching Candour” The Guardian, UK

On two Fridays March 5th and March 12th 2004Â The Evidence Room hosts International Performance star and New York theater legend Penny Arcade’s antidote to denatured, sterile and homogenized performance, as she and brilliant singer/songwriter Chris Rael, the mastermind of one New York’s most enduring bands, Church Of Betty, join forces to bring you REBELLION CABARET, a hilarious, irreverent and often edgy walk through the current landscape of culture and politics.

Penny Arcade continues to redefine theatre, performance, and political standup comedy with an exciting sound score that will have you rocking in your seat. Chris Rael will make you remember why anyone, anywhere, ever cared about rock and roll.

The show is loaded with content about how we live and think today. Sexual and identity politics, hegemony and the media, and the future of Western Civilization are de-boned and investigated. This show tears away the veil from marketed rebellion, celebrity culture, bourgeois bohemia, The Vagina Monologues, and the new patriotism.

The Evidence Room is located at 2220 Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles, between Virgil and Alvarado, just west of downtown and close to the 101, 110, and 10 Freeways. Limited free parking is available adjacent to the theater. Abundant street parking on Beverly Boulevard.

404 arte contemporanea presents Angelo Ricciardi’s exhibition ART LINE DO NOT CROSS in the new exposition space of via Santa Brigida in Napoli, Italy.

The show documents contiguous events produced during 2003 in the cities of Napoli, Berlin, New York, Milan, London, Venice, Bologna, Jakobstad, Pforzheim, Millwaukee, Perugia, Novi Ligure, Gleisdorf, Cesena, Weerde, Torino, and Chappaqua.
The yellow strip ART LINE DO NOT CROSS, is derived by substituting ART for the word POLICE in the warning strip POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS which has been made familiar by decades of use in American fiction cinematography for delineating the off limits crime scene. It is reproduced here by Angelo Ricciardi in requests for intervention to open up a discourse on limits, barriers, sites and confines of art in the contemporary world. In the exhibition, alongside the installation of the rolls of distributed ART LINE strips one also finds the participation of an impossible Marcel Duchamp, Piet Mondrian, Hugo Ball and Richard Hamilton who return to their roles and responsibilities in the historic Avantgarde. Texts by Francesca Comisso (a.titolo), Vinni Lucherini, Vincenzo Cuomo are published in the catalog.
