Happy Spring
It is my pleasure to invite you to several events coming up in the next few months, INCLUDING ONE THIS WEEK This Thursday, March 20th, 7:30pm, Screening and Conversation
Hammer Museum, Los Angeles
This winter, I have been an artist in residence at UCLA in the Social Software studio and Heumann Disability Lab, working with artist Lauren Lee McCarthy, coder Stalgia Grigg, and student researcher Tania Cortez to develop OPENING CAPTIONS, a tool that enables greater control over the styling and placement of captions and ease of language translation. My goal is to remove the disability tax and basic design and distribution barriers that dDeaf/HoH/Disabled filmmakers face when thinking expansively about the aesthetics of captions and to encourage non-disabled filmmakers to jump on board with accessibility throughout their process. We will screen examples of what we have been working on, and I will show a new project that benefits from OPENING CAPTIONS. https://hammer.ucla.edu/programs-events/2025/screening-and-conversation-artist-alison-odaniel

DePaul Uniersity, Chicago, IL
The Tuba Thieves will screen at DePaul University’s School of Cinematic Arts annual documentary conference Verité.
I will present A DISASTER, (I’ll be showing a clip at the Hammer this week). Using text, captions, and collected sound clips from disaster films, A DISASTER considers sound’s use as a weapon or a means of control, and the ways sonic violence mirrors the relentless ubiquity of ableism. A DISASTER is an experimental moving image script, film deck and proposal for my next feature film. A DISASTER will be presented as the final part of my Walker Cinema Residency, Are you Listening?

UPRISE 2025: The Art of Resistance 10TH ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION
Presented in collaboration with Art4Equality
Exhibition On View
March 8th – 29th, 2025
The Untitled Space
45 Lispenard Street NYC 10013
In celebration of The Untitled Space’s 10th anniversary, we are proud to
present “UPRISE 2025: The Art of Resistance” an exhibition curated by gallery founder Indira Cesarine, which will take place during Women’s History Month this March 2025. One hundred artists have joined forces for this landmark exhibition, opening on March 8th in honor of International Women’s Day, and on view through March 29th, celebrating a decade of art, activism, and unwavering resistance at The Untitled Space. Since its inception, the gallery has featured over 50 exhibitions and presented the work of more than 500 artists—many of whom have used their platforms to inspire and empower others while speaking out against political injustice, inequality, and oppression. UPRISE 2025 continues this legacy, bringing together artists whose work confronts the challenges of today’s social and political landscape and envisions a future rooted in justice, equality, and freedom.
Presented in collaboration with nonprofit initiative Art4Equality, the UPRISE 2025exhibition celebrates the power of art to inspire resistance, fuel activism, and catalyze change, and will feature works that address the most pressing political, social, and cultural issues of our time. As we continue to face rising political extremism, threats to civil rights, and an increasingly authoritarian climate, UPRISE 2025 provides a platform for artists who use their work to respond, resist, and reclaim their power.

THE DARK BOB’s NEW ALBUM CELEBRATES VISUAL AND CONCEPTUAL ARTISTS IN SONG!
Recently inducted into the Smithsonian Institute’s Archives of American Art for his notable contributions to conceptual art and alternative music, artist/musician, and FF Alumni, THE DARK BOB has released his long awaited 9th studio album.
This deluxe double album features 26 genre-blurring songs celebrating, pondering and occasionally criticizing the visual and conceptual artists we all love including tribute songs to FF Alumn artists Leslie Labowitz, Carolee Schneemann, Barbara T. Smith, Suzanne Lacy, Cheri Gaulke, John Fleck, Robert Rauschenberg, and Allan Kaprow.
This beautifully packaged set of songs features contributions from many of LA’s most beloved music icons including Nels Cline of Wilco, Americana Hall of Fame-er Dave Alvin, Syd Straw of the Golden Palomino’s, DJ Bonebrake from “X”, Peter Case of the Plimsouls, Marty Rifkin from the Bruce Springsteen Band and two time Grammy winner Sheldon Gomberg.
The esteemed rock critic and author Harvey Kubernik writes in Record Collector News, “The Dark Bob distills the essence of each artist and combines them into a potent aural soup of hard rock, teeny bopper pop, blood clotting punk, haute hip-hop, ho-down hillbilly and cool jazz seamlessly rolled into a single oeuvre in the bold and courageous work”.

Please support Little Red Light and me by attending an evening of new musical theater works. I will be singing a song from my musical comedy, “Depressed, Depressed!”
Friday March 21st @ 7pm

Alina Bliumis
Gut Feelings
Mar 27- May 3 2025
RECEPTION: Thurs, Mar 27th 6-8PM
SITUATIONS proudly presents Gut Feelings, Alina Bliumis’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. Continuing to explore visual strategies to subvert censorship, Bliumis’s latest series takes up the tradition of still life painting for its symbolic potential. Associations between images of food and sex have persisted for centuries in the arts, from the erotically-charged fruits appearing in Giovanni da Udine’s festoons framing Raphael’s exquisite 16th century fresco, Cupid and Psyche, to the 17th century Dutch still-lifes portraying tables overflowing with exotic produce to mirror the wealth reaped through new overseas trade and colonial ventures. Bliumis reinterprets the genre through a distinctly contemporary lens, incorporating the impacts of globalized trade, climate change, and authoritarianism upon our relationship to food and agriculture.
Monumentally scaled fruit, oysters and vegetables are set within moody, Romantic landscapes. Impossible to ignore, they speak to a sense of unease amid the rise of industrial-scale farming and GMOs. An enormous, single raspberry, blimp like, hovers in the air against a cloud-streaked sky; elsewhere, the discarded rind and seeds from a honeydew melon suggest a pair of spooning figures, accompanied by two cigarette butts. Cascades of plump tomatoes, pears, and cherries spill forth as chaotic bounties, highlighting the disparities between American supermarkets of imported plenty, and dwindling international aid packages airdropped by drone.
In a tumultuous era of sensationalized news, book bans, and fresh attacks on free speech, eggplant, peach, and watermelon emojis on social media have shown to be effective tools to circumvent restrictions, address bodily autonomy, and spread awareness around political issues. Addressing the gut as both a site of digestion and intuition, Bliumis’s paintings urge viewers to trust their instincts, and read between the lines.
Oh fruit blessed above all others
Good before, in the middle and after the meal, But perfect behind.
– Peach Poem by Francesco Berni, 1522

QR ELECTION/SELECTION
Issue 1 March 14, 2025
GH Hovagimyan 2
The 20 images were printed out on card stock in an 8”x8” format for card wide and 5 cards high. They were exhibited at The White Box Gallery in New York City during and after the election. Stephen Zacks one of the curators was gifted the original unsigned prints by me. I have since then used the images to create collection of NFTs. I’m offering them for sale on the Raribles platform. They are one of a kind digital assets. They also have quite a bit of “loaded” content. What would be fun is if many people would buy them. This is your chance to get one of my digital art pieces for an extremely low price. It’s also possible to buy the whole collection. You can also put in a bid price for the whole collection or each individual piece. My intention is to include everyone who buys a piece in the whole networked artwork. You may also receive a signed POD from me if you so choose.
