Fun Run with The Chxrch of Stop Shopping

On Earth Day Wednesday the 22nd we’ll gather at 12:00 noon at the new World HQ (“monstrous eco-obscenity” -The Guardian) on Madison Avenue between 47th and 48th streets. Four blocks up from Grand Central.

Please wear business casual attire, banker-like if possible, a briefcase helps. Race officials (singers) will safety pin to your shirt the CHASE STOP YOUR CLIMATE CHANGE on canvas tags for that ‘marathon runner’ look. Round and round the monster fortress! We’re on public property like runners all over the city, and yes our lawyer will be there – so no arrest risk in this action.

(Most of you know all this: Chase is three years running the largest bank in the world, and since the Paris Climate Agreement the top fossil fuel investor, nearing $500 billion in fossil spending in that time. Jamie Dimon in 2025 earned? $3 million per business day….)

Noon Wednesday Earth Day Apr 22nd

Chase Bank Madison Avenue at 47th Street.

The PIEROGI Flat Files and Open Book(s): Observations

at Mana Contemporary, Jersey City

hosted by Monira Foundation

Opening Reception: Saturday April 18, 2026.  5–7pm

Spring Open Studios: Sunday May 17, 2026.  Noon–6pm

888 Newark Ave   Jersey City, NJ 07306   Ground Floor Galleries

Pierogi’s traveling Flat Files are on the road again and will be on view at Mana Contemporary Jersey City for an extended stay. They will house portfolios of original works by 350 artists with a selection of works displayed in the gallery. Access and participation, on the part of both artists and viewers, was the original and remains the central idea of the Pierogi Flat Files. One of the goals is to demystify the art viewing process by allowing people to view a large and eclectic group of original artworks in portfolios. The viewer becomes a participant in this interactive curatorial project, relying on their own confidence and discretion. With this exhibition, we hope to broaden the viewing experience and to bring the audience back to an in-person, visceral viewing where they can see and hold original artworks in hand.

Open Book(s): Observations

Including work by—

Seongmin AHN, Noriko AMBE, Michael BALLOU, Dawn CLEMENTS, Brian CONLEY, Hugo CROSTHWAITE, Ri DYM, Ellen HARVEY, Moses HOSKINS, Kristen JENSEN, Kim JONES, Sean MELLYN, Marilla PALMER, William POWHIDA, Mike RADER, Mark REYNOLDS, David SCHER, Guy RICHARDS SMIT, Tim SPELIOS, Oriane STENDER, Tavares STRACHAN, Jude TALLICHET, David WELLS, Charmaine WHEATLEY, Martin WILNER

“Open Book(s)” is an ongoing exhibition hosted by Monira Foundation at Mana Contemporary. This iteration, curated by Pierogi, includes works by twenty-five artists who present books as objects in transformation; some sculpted or painted, some sketch books, and others depictions of a place and time.

Also on view —

Ward Shelley and Douglas Paulson’s “Archive: Troll Hole”

and

Charles Yuen’s paintings

We got 5 EMMY NOMINATIONS!!! I woke up to this incredible news for TURNING POINT: THE VIETNAM WAR, the Netflix series I produced with the most amazing team, director, and star subjects. My heart is so full thinking of the extraordinary people who carried this trauma caused by war and devastation for decades and trusted us with their heartbreaking stories — and of the deep care our entire team took to research, tell, sonify, and visualize the Vietnam War in a way that honors how profoundly it shaped generations and nations. 8. Barbara Rosenthal, FF Alumn, at Sulla Luna, Manhattan, April 20

Barbara Rosenthal (FF Alum) will present a featured reading of “Chapter 30: Jewel Swims Out,” from  WISH FOR AMNESIA, her novel of 52-years in progress, 19 proto-editions (Deadly Chaps Press), on

April 20 at

Sulla Luna,

41 Carmine St, NYC.

Other featured readers are Stephen Paul Miller, Dorothy August Friedman and Anthony Haden-Guest, in the WordShedNYC reading series curated by Leah Elimeliah.

Barbara Rosenthal’s novel explores perfectionism, particularly regarding human development, circling around the family of Jack Rubin, the son of Holocaust heroes who develops a messianic complex. In “Chapter 30: Jewel Swims Out,” his teenaged daughter swims out beyond her depth one night in Ostia, on the outskirts of Rome, while her godmother, Beatrice, is entangled with a lover on the shore.

Two editions of the novel are on sale at Printed Matter:

https://www.printedmatter.org/catalog/43371

https://www.printedmatter.org/catalog/46759

and a third they had been selling is currently out of print:

More about the novel, with development and reviews, including raves and recommendations in “Kirkus,” “American Book Review” and “Afterimage”:

The hundreds of thousands of pages, bound and unbound, pasted up, digitized, loose, etc, are now in two university archives:

14. Power Boothe, Lucio Pozzi, FF Alumns, at Art Cake, Brooklyn, thru May 30

American Abstract Artists is pleased to announce our 90th Anniversary Exhibition, featuring work by 90 current members at ART CAKE in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The exhibition continues the tradition of anniversary shows that honor AAA’s formation in 1936, and the group’s history of continuous activity since then.

Works have been selected by independent curator Saul Ostrow, who states:

The exhibition Abstract by Definition: An Index is an invitation to consider the diversity of what “abstract” means. By juxtaposing contrasting works, the installation is intended to orchestrate an internal dialogue that reflects on the nature of abstract art across several realms—philosophical, historical, etymological, and symbolic.

About the Curator

Saul Ostrow was trained as an artist, but since the 1990s he has primarily worked as an independent critic, curator, and educator. Since 1986, he has curated over 70 exhibitions in the US and abroad. He has served as Co-Editor of Lusitania Press (1996–2004) and as the Editor of the book series Critical Voices in Art, Theory and Culture (1996–2006), published by Routledge. Presently, he is Art Editor at Large at Bomb Magazine. In 2010, he founded Critical Practices Inc., an all-volunteer, non-profit organization whose projects include curatorial projects, open forums, and a broadsheet publication.

About AAA

American Abstract Artists was founded in 1936 in New York City. Its aim was to serve as an exhibiting organization and a forum for discussion at a time when American abstract art was facing critical neglect. Early members had ties to the W.P.A. Federal Art Project and A.E. Gallatin’s Gallery of Living Art and many were former students of Hans Hofmann.

Beginning with their first public exhibition in 1937, the group’s shows had an inestimable impact on raising awareness of abstract art in the United States. The organization became an important artistic hub for European artists, including Piet Mondrian and Josef Albers, who were emigrating from war-torn Europe. Early members like Lee Krasner and Ad Reinhardt were instrumental in forming a distinct strand of American abstract art.

Throughout its 90 year history of continuous operation, AAA has served to foster dialogue among members and present their work collectively to the public. The group is one of the few 20th century art organizations that has remained active in our current century and, thanks to its longevity, the group now offers a uniquely multi-generational viewpoint.

About Art Cake

Art Cake was founded in 2019 by brothers Cordy and Ethan Ryman to provide creatives with space for production and events in New York City. Located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, Art Cake also sponsors an artist residency program, which provides affordable workspaces to artists from around the world working in a variety of fine art disciplines, with an aim to build and support a diverse community of artists.
