Radio hostesses and society doyennes Vesta Poteet and Dixie Mandrell bring to you the comings and goings of the activities in and around The Luna Del Mar Manufactured Home Oasis and Monkey Empire — very few of the monkeys are contagious. And what a jumpin’ place this trailor park is. There’s a visit to Graceland from rovin’ reporter Missy Goode (and her unfortunate arrest by the security guards); there’s the upcomin’ Miss Manatee contest, if forced contestant Mayola Felts can stop eaten’ every sweet thing she can get her hands on; there’s The Heart of Dixie advice for the lovelorn and addicted — a subscription to the Gone with the Wind collectors series of plates with Scarlette O’Hara looking like Ernest Borgnine in drag is a dramatic disappointment. The colossal celebration at Luna Del Mar, penicillin capital of central Florida, is Jesus and Elvis; A Tribute to the Kings, a little nativity with some rock n’ roll. So it’s not the holidays, but in honor of Elvis, a drive-by nativity is planned with headlights to be beamed on the annual tableau — low headlights, PLEASE! If you think that this kings’ tribute runs smoothly, you’ll also believe that teased hair is a thing of the past.

This lab creates a space for writing from the body with voice as the interlocuter. The power of voice is profound when it becomes an enlivening agent for language. Likewise language becomes more fluid and vibrant when in concert with the voiced body.
Technical writers, closet writers, published writers, singer songwriters, people who don’t fancy themselves writers, artists and poets are all invited as well as vocalists who are looking for their tongue.
Composing for Non-Composers

How does a writer or a poet make melody sound… to set their language spinning outside of speech? How might a performer weave sculptural materials with vocal elements to create a total composition of form and pattern? This lab employs alternative techniques and approaches to composing, devising or otherwise organizing voice-based material for performance. Bring your sonic ideas alive in this lab. No music theory background is necessary.

Lynn Book will present and lecture on her work, as well as teach in the inaugural Transart Institute MFA program this July, 2005. Early Deadline for enrollment is March 15, 2005.

The Transart Institute in cooperation with Donau University Krems will begin its Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in New Media Program in July 2005. It is the first international low-residency two-year MFA graduate art program in Europe and is accredited through Donau University.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Students are free to pursue work in any media art-related genre and to create their own course of study, working independently and with the support of self-chosen faculty and artist mentors. Three intensive residencies permit students to continue with their professional life while participating in the program. Students work on independent art and research projects off-site between residencies. Genres include: Animation, Architecture, Cyber Art, Experimental Art, Film/Video, Graphic Design, Installation Art, Interactive Art, Interdisciplinary Art, Performance Art, Photography, and Sound/Music. Reykjavik Presents Its First Festival Dedicated to Contemporary Visual Arts

The Reykjavik Arts Festival announced that this year’s program, on view from May 14 2005, will focus on contemporary visual arts after three decades of festivals dedicated to the performing arts. A series of exhibitions and installations will be presented in Reykjavik and throughout the country, focusing on the legacy of Dieter Roth, the German-born Swiss artist who spent a large part of his life in Iceland, and who influenced both established and younger artists. Curated by Jessica Morgan, curator of contemporary art at Tate Modern, London, a multi-venue program of newly-commissioned work will be entitled Material Time/Work Time/Life Time and will present throughout Iceland an outstanding selection of national and international contemporary artists. Running concurrently, a Dieter Roth retrospective entitled Dieter Roth, A Private Exhibition will be curated by Bjorn Roth, the son of the artist, and will be presented at several venues in Reykjavik.
Material Time/Work Time/Life Time brings together over 30 artists from Iceland, Europe and North and South America whose work shares Roth’s interest in collapsing the boundaries between art, life, and materiality. The artists include both Roth’s contemporaries and a recent generation such as Peter Fischli and David Weiss, John Latham, Thomas Hirschhorn, Micol Assael, Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla, and Gabriela Fridriksdottir who will represent Iceland at the 2005 Venice Biennale. New works commissioned specifically for this festival examine the themes and inspirations at stake in Roth’s work. More than 20 venues and sites in Reykjavik, its surroundings and other major Icelandic towns, will host this exhibition, and most sites will focus on the work of only one or two artists. Olafur Eliasson and Margret Blondal will each present sculptural installations in outdoor locations. German artists Jonathan Meese and John Bock will develop new performances while Lawrence Weiner will show new work responding to the well known Icelandic sagas. Film and video are the chosen media of Anri Sala and Wilhelm Sasnal who blend documentary, narrative, and autobiographical techniques. In an unusual collaboration, Matthew Barney will present an installation conceived with Gabriela Fridriksdottir. Other artists participating in the exhibition are Jeremy Deller and Allan Kane, Hreinn Fridfinnsson, Kristjan Gudmundsson, Elin Hansdottir, Carsten Holler, Hekla Dogg Jonsdottir, Haraldur Jonsson, Brian Jungen, On Kawara, Ragnar Kjartansson, Gabriel Kuri, Anna Lindal, Olafur Arni Olafsson, Libia Perez de Siles de Castro, Finnbogi Petursson and Bojan Sarcevic.
The Dieter Roth retrospective entitled Dieter Roth, A Private Exhibition will be featured at two of Iceland’s largest museums: The National Gallery of Iceland and Reykjavik Art Museum, as well as in Gallery 100º, a renowned gallery, all in Reykjavik.
Most of the exhibitions will be on view through July/August.
