Franklin Furnace’s Goings On
A special Goings On for Wednesday, September 3rd

Ricardo Miranda Zuñiga, Franklin Furnace Future of the Present winner 2003, announces “Public Broadcast Cart,” and a call for participants for a live public radio broadcast from Liberty Park, Lower Manhattan, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19 and 20.

September 19th and 20th from 2-5pm, NYCwireless and Eyebeam will be producing an art event and workshop days that celebrate wireless data networks in the NY Metro area at Liberty Park. The main theme of the exhibition and workshops will be “The Wireless Park.” “The Wireless Park” will explore how the park, as a shared, public space, can be expanded into the online world through the use of an on-location wireless network, and how that network allows the virtual world to inhabit the real, physical space of the park.

As part of the wireless even, Ricardo Miranda Zuñiga with help from the Franklin Furnace and sound engineering by Jan McLaughlin will present the PUBLIC BROADCAST CART. The PUBLIC BROADCAST CART is a shopping cart that has been outfitted with a microphone, speakers, an amplifier, a personal computer and a miniFM transmitter to establish a mobile radio station that will simultaneously broadcast to an online radio station, FM frequency and the immediate area via the speakers.

The PUBLIC BROADCAS CART is intended to be a participatory project — an available soap box for those citizens with something to shout out. People interested in producing radio shows for the two day event should contact Ricardo at ricardo@ambriente.com with a description of the intended program and the date and time that you wish to broadcast your show.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE AVAILABLE NETWORKS TO SEND YOUR MESSAGE AND PARTICIPATE!
