The Franklin Furnace FUND for Performance Art, now in its 39th year, is supported in 2024-25 by Jerome Foundation, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and Silicon Valley Community Foundation. This coming September we will award $60,000 to bold early-career artists to perform live in NYC and online at our digital LOFT.
In addition, this year Franklin Furnace inaugurates the Jacki Apple Award in Performance and Artist Projects: $10,000 grants will be awarded annually over the coming decade in honor of early Franklin Furnace staff member, Jacki Apple, and her lifelong commitment to championing artists of every stripe. In late 2024, Franklin Furnace will present the second round of XENO PRIZES, two $5,000 awards for an LGBTQ+-identifying early-career performance artist working in one of the 22 states that ban gender-affirming care; and for the creator of an artists’ book that addresses the recent spate of book banning/burning.
Franklin Furnace continues reaching out to future generations with SEQ ART KIDS. Our award-winning public school education program is supported in 2024 by the New York State Council on the Arts, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, District 35 Councilmember Crystal Hudson, Art Shop Fund, and the Milton & Sally Avery Arts Foundation. One highlight of 2024 programming is former Franklin Furnace staffer Lady Pink’s remarkable new trio of vividly-colored, permanent playground games for the youngsters at long-time arts education partner PS 889 in Midwood, Brooklyn.
Finally, there’s Franklin Furnace’s new planned giving program, the Unforeseen Society. Soon to turn 50, Franklin Furnace is already planning for its 100th anniversary! To date, three individuals have named Franklin Furnace in their wills – charitable bequests that create a lasting legacy of vital support of our mission. We hope you will consider joining this newly created program as part of your estate planning efforts. Members of the Unforeseen Society are invited to join our staff for annual coffee klatches and hands-on archival tours. Learn more more about the Unforeseen Society? Click here >>
