This exhibition investigates the concept of softness as an inherent trait of humanity and as a revelation of human vulnerability. It is a call to reexamine the definition of power in a time of escalating conflict and violence, and an invitation to unearth the virtue of resilience when grappling with chaos.
Through her doughy sculptures, Santina Amato interprets the aesthetics of softness, guiding us to redefine power amid destruction and reconstruction. Verónica Peña exposes her body to delve into the suffocating current that deprives people of their subjectivity, inviting us to breathe in unison and acknowledge our unavoidable vulnerability. Kate Stone’s idiosyncratic sculptures, made from carpeting, highlight the human paradox of desiring while avoiding softness, and question our fear of failing in the face of the unknown. Fernando Monroy’s work presents an interweaving of pain, confrontation, and desire, playfully interrogating the allure and brutality of violence. Barb Smith‘s installations involve an interaction between bodies and memory foam, intimating our longing for intimacy and the power dynamics beneath it.
The exhibition is an open question—an incomplete sentence waiting to be completed by a collective narrative that underscores the courage to embrace softness. Vulnerability is an essential element of our humanity, though it invites suffering. Here, we acknowledge and celebrate softness as it helps us to endure, adapt, and transform ourselves and the world around us.

5. Alicia Grullón, FF Alumn, at Amherst College, MA, April 23
Alicia Grullon will be in conversation with Elizabeth Ferrer on Tuesday April 23rd, 2024 from 6-7 pm at Amherst College on her new work for the Mead Museum of Art, “Like a Slow Walk with Trees,” a meditation on land and labor and the unity of these seemingly divergent topics.
https://www.amherst.edu/museums/mead/events/node/909410
“Artist Alicia Grullón speaks with art historian and curator Elizabeth Ferrer in connection with Grullón’s current solo exhibition at the Mead, Like a Slow Walk with Trees. Reflecting research on recent protests in a range of industries, such as mining, shipping, and entertainment, Grullón poetically knits together the direct language often used in protests with other references that layer and complicate associations while addressing current issues.”
Like a Slow Walk with Trees January 26, 2024 through June 23rd, 2024. *Please note that the exhibition will be closed to the public May 3rd – 24th while an adjacent gallery is undergoing installation.

After Mallarmé
12 April—19 July 2024
Opening: 11 April | 6–8pm
Dear Friends,
Join us for the opening of ‘After Mallarmé’, a group show in three parts curated by Michael Newman, on Thursday 11 April 6-8pm.
Three rolling exhibitions will trace aspects of the legacy of the poet Stéphane Mallarmé in contemporary art, drawing on his poem ‘A throw of the dice will never abolish chance’ and his posthumously published notes towards a ‘book performance’. Mallarmé has had a great influence on visual art, ranging from text and newspaper collage in Cubism, through Marcel Duchamp and John Cage, to Marcel Broodthaers. Rather than direct influence, these exhibitions will ‘read’ the work of certain contemporary artists through Mallarmé.
The exhibitions will open with an exploration of the page as a place and the place, including the gallery, as a page, on which and in which the work of art becomes an event and a journey. Could these ‘pages’ form a book, and what, then, would be the relation between book and world.
We all look forward to seeing you.

Paris Koh Fine Arts proudly presents Verba volant, Scripta manent: Despo Magoni, Heejung Kim, Mark Bloch an exhibition of artist books running from April 2nd through 27th, 2024 and celebrated with an opening reception on Saturday April 6th from 5-7PM.
Despite the omnipresent dominance of Gutenbergian mass production, since the 18th century, many artists and poets like William Blake endeavored to reverse the industrial secularization of this printed medium, by designing and painting their hand-made books like medieval scribes. This artistic practice reached its zenith during the 20th century with the Russian avant-garde, as well as the Futurists in Italy or the Surrealists and the Dadaists in France, giving birth to the so-called artist books. After World War II, numerous conceptual artists and Fluxus members utilized the artbook form as a novel way of personal expression and artistic creation in the world of contemporary art.
For example, Despo Magoni, in her mixed media series entitled A Thousand and One Nights, consciously uses the book format to narrate via her expressionist figures, the iconic story of Scheherazade and her personal struggle against a violent and patriarchic culture. Mark Bloch as a conceptual artist utilizes the written word (advertisements, postcards, correspondence letters etc.) to reflect on the constant reshaping and the eventual variation of script or the book medium in today’s electronic and digital world. Finally, Heejung Kim’s artist books push the imaginative production of the medium to its outmost limits of formal innovation wherein her artbooks reforge in a sculptural-haptic manner, everything we know about the book format.
Despo Magoni, Mark Bloch and Heejung Kim manage through their artist books to overcome the limiting boundaries of their art medium. They re-introduce to the viewer an imaginative play of all the senses, reverting to a primordial state of artistic creation, where each book constituted a unique work of art of a holistic quality (combining image, text, sculpture, calligraphy and design); something that had been missing in Western culture for almost 300 years.
