Back to THE HISTORY OF THE FUTUREFall 1999/ Winter 2000

Friday, October 15, 1999   The Body as Art Medium:

Jill Scott, Taped

The process of my performances originate in the use of my body as a sculptural medium and as a magnetic force in space. I used to predetermine the visual effect of a combined action and hope that the end result would be equal to the magnetic force and to the sculptural quality I had presupposed. After a while the most interesting reaction resulted from improvisation and spontanious performance, the setting predetermined. The landscape imagery and photo transparencies or security camera taping were used as a way of transfering mood, action and attitude equal to the serenity of the Australian Outback, and meditative enough for the magnetic properties to be readily noticed.
