1. Kal Spelletich, FF Alumn, in Vienna, thru Dec 10

I am in an exhibit in Vienna Austria this Dec.5-10, 2006 at a festival called Roboexotica, http://roboexotica.org

I was in the show last year and it is well worth the visit to Vienna. It is frosty cold there this time of year so you get the full effect of the winter holidays! The exhibit is free to the public with many many free cocktails served to you by machines and robots, i kid you not.  AND, i will be Bar B-Qing and DJing every night, like last year, so there's free vienna sausages cooked by moi! (like only an ex-Iowan current Califonian can cook!).I am also hosting a symposium with all of the presenting artists.

There is a GREAT coffee shop and bakery called Demel I WILL take you to to, like nothing and nowhere else on the planet!
http://www.demel.at/en/index_en_flash.htm

Here are some photos of my current piece i am bringing, the VINO VIPER and some photos from last years exhibit and all of the necessary links:

Dear friends and colleagues-

If you will be in Miami next week please come see my featured performance at -Scope Miami. Details are below. I look forward to seeing you there!

-Andrea

The artist and the artwork as nomad. BodySite reflects the artist’s need to adapt, to transport one’s vision to a multitude of places. In this mobile live performance, the artist moves slowly inside a three-dimensional painting. Fusing figure and ground, BodySite resides in the boundary between abstraction and figuration and visual art and dance, creating a space for viewers to slow down and reflect amid the bustle of the fair.

5. Kate Gilmore, FF Alumn, in The New York Times, Nov 24, 2006

Congratulations to Kate Gilmore, FF Fund for Performance Art recipient, 2006-2007, for the photo and article on her work in last week’s New York Times. Here’s the text of the story by Benjamin Genocchio:

“For her video works, the adorably goofy performance artist Kate Gilmore has been pelted with tomatoes, has roller-skated up a ramp doused with fudge, has jumped rope in stilettos on a perforated platform and has cemented her leg inside a bucket. Now she is back, making her Brooklyn solo exhibition debut with three new videos at Pierogi that continue her exploration of pain, desire and the limits of human endurance. Top billing goes to “Main Squeeze,” a kooky video of Ms. Gilmore crawling through a tapering wooden tunnel she constructed in her studio. Cameras at both ends of the tunnel capture the tomboyish artist squiggling and squirming her way through; the performance lasts five minutes during which she scuffs her elbows and knees. But she is just warming up. Later in the show a video shows her standing against a wall in a matronly dress as the video camera swings back and forth, punching her in the stomach. Thought it’s laugh-inducing at first, the action becomes disturbing as Ms. Gilmore begins to grunt and groan in pain. This is hard to watch, though her clever incorporation of the camera into the work suggests a possible new direction for her: She seems to have realized the unsettling potential of using the camera as an actor or as a sculptural prop, letting us vicariously participate in the performance (“Hopelessly Devoted,” through Dec. 23 at Pierogi, 1787 North Ninth Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 718-599-2144, pierogi2000.com)”

7. Koosil-ja, FF Alumn, at The Kitchen, NY, tonite and Dec 9, 8 pm

Koosil-ja
Dance without Bodies

Dec 6-9 (Wed-Sat) 8pm
Tickets $12

Drawing on her performance work with The Wooster Group and the ideas of philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, choreographer Koosil-ja presents a new dance work built around two simultaneous, yet spatially disconnected solos that question the fundamental role of "presence" in performance and allude to an understanding of the "self" as a subject always in process. Created in collaboration with dancer Melissa F. Guerrero, Benton-C Bainbridge (video), and Geoff Matters (music, video, and software design), Koosil-jas "live processing" performance method requires the dancers to synthesize, in real-time, the action depicted in multiple videos and then to generate, from these randomly combined sources, new movement that is neither pure improvisation nor set choreography, yielding unique results each evening.

Dance without Bodies is made possible with support from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Swing Space program and The Fund for Creative Communities, the Greenwall Foundation, Experimental Television Center Presentation Fund and Finishing Fund, Meet The Composer Creative Connections, The Jerome Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, The American Music Center Live Music for Dance program, and The Rockefeller Foundation Multi-Arts Production Fund.

Dance programs at The Kitchen are made possible with sponsorship support from Altria Group, Inc., with generous grants from The Harkness Foundation for Dance and the Mertz Gilmore Foundation, and with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.

8. Yvonne Rainer, FF Visionary, at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, Dec 16, 12-2 pm

YVONNE RAINER BOOK READING AND SIGNING
Saturday, December 16: 12:00 – 2:00 PM
RONALD FELDMAN FINE ARTS, INC.
31 Mercer Street at Grand Street

The Feldman gallery will host a reading and signing by Yvonne Rainer of her book, Feelings are Facts: A Life, recently published by M.I.T. Press.

The event is free to the public and is part of a series of events planned in conjunction with an exhibition by Peggy Jarrell Kaplan titled “Contemporary Dance: Portraits of Choreographers 1981 – 2006,” which is on view at the Feldman Gallery through December 22.

Dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker, Yvonne Rainer was one of the founders of the influential Judson Church Theater in 1962 and central figure in the American postmodern dance movement. Her memoir traces her personal and artistic coming of age, using diary entries, letters, program notes, excerpts from film scripts, snapshots, and film frame enlargements.

The same bracing honesty, sly wit, human insight, and formal brilliance that made Yvonne Rainer among the most influential figures of her generation make ”Feelings are Facts” an irresistible pleasure. The book is both a moving personal memoir and a fascinating cultural history; it reveals the complex relationship between the emotional life and creative work of a remarkable artist during a period of seismic shifts in American culture and society.

Lynn Swanson, FF Alumn, is in Turin, Italy until 16 December shooting "The Mother of Tears" with director Dario Argento.

"La Terza Madre" (Italian title) is the third film in the trilogy that legendary horror-thriller director Dario Argento (whose films are lauded for their unusual camerawork and stunning visual beauty) began in 1977 with "Suspiria" and continued with "Inferno" in 1980. 13. Lelia Pendleton at art6 gallery, Richmond, Virginia, Dec 9, 8 pm

art6, the non-profit gallery of which FF alum Mitzi Humphrey is a co-founder, has a new president, Lelia Pendleton, a mime, who will be performing this Saturday night at the gallery. Lelia Pendleton presents her all-original 1-woman show, “Balancing Act”, and takes a humorous view of our whirling, busy life. "Balancing Act" looks at some of modern life’s multi-tasks and the effects they have on our balance.  Through the perspectives of an ol' hound dawg, a little girl, and a modern working couple, among others, our modern life is revealed. This mime show is in the style of the late Tony Montanaro, Lelia’s dear teacher.  She aims to bring this unique approach to audiences everywhere.

She will perform her show on December 9 th at 8 PM here in Richmond at art6 Gallery, 6 E. Broad St.   The tickets are $5 at the door, which opens at 7:30. For more information about the show, contact Lelia at bnkshothtr@aol.com.  For directions and information about art6, check out the website, http://art6.org/ Mitzi may be reached at chiaroscuro2@msn.com or picass0@verizon.net.
