1. Sonja Rapoport, FF Alumn, web project in Cologne, Germany in September

Sonya Rapoport, FF Alumn, will be showing her web project, DiGITAL MUDRA, at le-musee di-visioniste in Cologne, Germany in September in an exhibit of artists' self- reflection by means of digital media.

Her project, Digital Mudra, is an adaptation of a multimedia interactive installation in which participants can be viewed expressing their feelings with hand gestures. The selection of images, gestures, and accompanying words represent the artist's reflection of herself.

Mudra, from Sanskrit, means gesture movements. They comprise a blending of Arayan and Dravidian cultures. The dance movements tell a story cued by the story teller and interpreted by the Kathakali dancer. A physical and emotional mood is created. The purpose of the synthesis of language and gesture is to imagine the word's movement as a perception of universal relationships.

Works of artists' self-reflection can be viewed at www.le-musee-divisioniste.org

7. Isabel Samaras, FF Alumn, in Art Prostitute Magazine current issue.

The latest issue of Art Prostitute magazine is out and features Shepard Fairey, Jeff Soto and Isabel Samaras. It should be on newsstands now (Tower Records carries it -- for other shops check out www.artprostitute.com, which also has some leftover bits from the interview that didn't make print). The mag comes in a groovy square box format and includes a poster by each artist. "Collaborative projects are the central focus of Art Prostitute Magazine. They create community amongst the participants. Our hope is that these projects will start a creative force that will initiate change in the art world and beyond. The power many creatives working together manifests is truly something to behold. As more people become involved we will publish the results in print and on the web. Solid!" Williamsburg, DUMBO, Red Hook, Long Island City, Astoria, Jackson Heights. Beginning in the early 1990s, each of these communities became a repository for successive waves of visual artists whose works channeled newly innovative energies into a moribund New York art world. Redefining the far-flung notion of Manhattan's sleepy boroughs, several generations of visual artists and their attendant activities helped establish thriving arts scenes-complete with experimental spaces, galleries and countless watering holes-which have become the perfect breeding ground for the artists of the present and the future. Today, a glimpse of New York's contemporary arts scene is unthinkable without visiting the artists studios, galleries and arts institutions that have sprung up all around Brooklyn and Queens. MOMA QNS, The Sculpture Center, The Emily Landau Fisher Center and The Dorsky Gallery join venerable institutions like The Queens Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, P.S.1, BAM and the Brooklyn Museum, all of which have been revitalized by the new dynamism surrounding two of New York's culturally most significant boroughs. An essential reordering of New York's visual culture, the vibrant energy produced by BQE's artistic corridor has drawn the city's and the world's artistic map anew.
