A Slight Headache is a new work in progress written and performed by Alyson Pou. This piece is about the unusual relationship of a daughter and mother who are joined from the daughter's birth by their hair. The piece is set in the late 1800s and makes use of dolls and other objects to unfold this dream-like fable.
Alyson Pou has performed exhibited and lectured at numerous museums, galleries and colleges around the country. Her work has been presented in New York at Danspace Project at St. Mark¹s Church, Artist¹s Space, Thread Waxing Space, Performance Space 122, Franklin Furnace, the Bronx Museum, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, A.I.R. Gallery, Creative Time, Dixon Place; in California at New Langton in San Francisco, the Contemporary Art Forum in Santa Barbara, Contemporary Art Center in New Orleans, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta among others.
Ms. Pou is the
recipient of the 1993-94 New York Dance and Performance Award (aka The Bessies
Award) in the category of Choreographer/Creator. She has also received grants
from Art Matters Inc., and the Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art. For
the past two years she has been studying acting and the Alexander Technique
with Jed Diamond.
