Thomas Mulready lectures on performance art at Nottingham Trent Univ., Feb, 2002.

February 2002: forthcoming lectures at The Nottingham Trent University
School of Art & Design: Performing Arts

a: "Performance Art in the USA" and
b: "Performance Art and the World of Business".

a: Tuesday February 12th, 2.00 p.m., Victoria Studios,The Nottingham Trent University.

Thomas Mulready, the founder-director of the world famous Cleveland Performance Art Festival U.S.A., is visiting The Nottingham Trent University next week and will be giving two public lectures about different aspects of the Festival. His recollection of over 1000 performance art events that occurred at the Festival over the last decade is unparalleled and is fast becoming one of the new 'oral histories' of America. His account will be illustrated with examples from his extensive video collection which features performance and live art work never before seen in this country. This extraordinary history will be outlined in his lecture and will take place on:
Tuesday February 12th 2.00p.m.
Victoria Studios
The Nottingham Trent University
Shakespeare Street

b: Monday February 11th, 5.30 p.m. Waverley Lecture Theatre, The Nottingham Trent University.

In addition to his seminal work as director of the Festival, Thomas
Mulready is an unusual and engaging character in the world of performance art inasmuch as he is also an American Banker! Most recently a Senior Vice President of National City Bank (one of the largest banks in the USA) he headed the department of e-Commerce and Internet Strategy. The strange and sometimes strained relationship between arts, business and sponsorship, parallels between the Internet and Performance Art, and ways in which
business could usefully profit from studying aspects of performance art, is the subject of a Research Lecture to be given on:

Monday February 11th, 5.30 p.m.
Waverley Lecture Theatre
The Nottingham Trent University
Waverley Street

Admission to both lectures is free but both venues have limited capacity so advance reservation is advised. To attend either/both event(s) or for further information, maps etc please RSVP to: Rebecca Turnock, Research Assistant, Live Art Archives UK: E-mail: rebecca.turnock@ntu.ac.uk Phone/fax: 0115 848 6831. These lectures are supported by The Nottingham Trent University's School of Art & Design Research and Live Art Archives UK. Thomas Mulready is a Visiting Research Scholar for Drama, Dance and Performing Arts.
