Billy X Curmano, FF Alumn, performs, records and receives a Henry Hampton Award for Excellence in Film & Digital Media award and performs at Grounds for Sculpture on April 10-13, 2002 and performs in MN on April 24, 2002.
a). Billy X. Curmano, F.F. Alumn, will serve as "The Fire Bearer" in a 3 day performance for the 4th International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art hosted by Grounds for Sculpture and Johnson Atelier near Hamilton, NJ April 10-13. In a ceremony following the keynote address, "The Fire Bearer" will ignite a wheelbarrow filled with flammable sculptural elements. Over the next 3 days, the burning wheelbarrow will traverse the Grounds for Sculpture following a random order assigned by an I-Ching style casting of coins.
b) Billy X. Curmano will receive the "Henry Hampton Award for Excellence in Film & Digital Media" for "Swimming the Mississippi" at the Chicago Hilton on April 28. The video is part of the F.F. "History of the Future Series" and documents his 2,367.4 mile swim from the source of the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico as performance and environmental statement.
