Education coordinator sought, Bronx River Art Center, position starts July, 2002
Early July, 2002 Education Coordinator
Administer a free after-school, visual arts program for youth ages 9 - 19.
Develop new curriculum initiatives, program expansion and long term goals including linkages to our professional artist studios and exhibitions programs.
Write all program announcements and correspondences and oversee mailings and registration
Recruit and supervise instructors, interns and volunteers and oversee preparations for classes and student evaluations.
Serve as liaison to community schools, community-based organizations, and media through representation at community meetings, one-on-one contact with youth organizers and aggressive press relations.
Maintain all student data, including attendance records and student evaluations.
Prepare work-program records for monthly and quarterly reporting to funding agency.
Write programs narratives and prepare budgets for grant proposals.
Manage bookings of gallery tours and workshops for school groups and CBOs.
Prepare educational material for, and conduct tours of exhibitions.
Coordinate 2 - 3 student exhibitions annually in our gallery, including awards celebration.
Bachelor's Degree in art education, fine arts, art history, museum studies or related fields.
Effective verbal, writing and interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational and supervisory skills, resourceful and flexible and able to work alone or part of a team.
Computer literate in word processing and MS Office applications. Website and graphic programs management skills a plus.
Good time manager and able to handle multi-tasked projects.
Bi-lingual (Spanish-English) a plus.
Salary: Low to
mid 20s, commensurate with experience.
Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday with some evening/weekend hours.

The Bronx River Art Center is a 20 year old community based multi-arts organization, located in a four story converted warehouse building, on the banks of the Bronx River. Through its three interlocking programs: free after-school classes in the visual arts, a divers series of gallery exhibitions and affordable studio spaces for professional artists, BRAC provides cultural opportunity to a multi-ethnic community in the south-central section of the Bronx.
