Election Protest Art Exhibition - call for entries Dimpled Art? Steal this Show? Supreme Court of Artists Render an Opinion:
An artists & #8217 call is being requested for submissions of proposals, work and ideas in regards to an exhibition to be held in the near future of artists response to the recent Presidential Election. Several galleries and public spaces have expressed interest but a site has not been chosen yet. The election combined drama, pathos and bathos into a mix that riveted the nation. Many voters, particularly minorities, were disenfranchised in many states. Archaic voting machines, onerous regulations and other irregularities spotlighted the fact that we are not yet a country where every vote counts. Artists have a responsibility to speak up on issues of the day. Art can focus and create attention on the feelings that many people have, the majority of Americans in this case, about the election. A picture is worth a thousand words. This show will help to put pressure on republicans and the President to moderate their swing to the right. It will also say that the policies that created the election debacle are not appropriate in American government.
The work does not have to be didactic to make its point. Works in all media and modalities are encouraged. For artists who have not participated in an exhibition of this kind, it is a lot of fun and liberating to join together with other art workers. A companion web-site will be constructed with commentary and work of the show to generate a worldwide audience. The Organizer, Frank Shifreen, is an artist, a curator and has organized many successful exhibitions in the past. He was the founder of the Gowanus Memorial Artyard, Directed the Monumental Shows, was a director of the group that created the Terminal Show, Pan Arts, Plexus International and many other artist organizations. He is a teacher and also directs Frank Shifreen Studios, a Design Consulting Group. He is also asking those interested to help organize and work for the show.
