Dear Colleague, You are being asked to participate in a project sponsored by Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and funded by the New York State Council of the Arts. The Collaborations Project is designed to explore issues that arise when individual artists collaborate to create new work. These issues often reach beyond what is covered by copyright law and deal with matters of co-authorship, specifically questions that involve credit, compensation (monetary or otherwise) and control of product.

Your participation in this project which includes this questionnaire and the possible participation on a focus group panel will help artists in all fields to more effectively cope with issues of collaboration in the future and may lead to VLA efforts aimed at affecting legislation or principals within a field clarifying and protecting the rights and obligations of collaborative artists and creator, whether they qualify as copyright owners or not.

Your prompt response to the following questions will be greatly appreciated. All responses are confidential and any use of the information and/or opinions expressed here will be presented anonymously. Answering this questionnaire does not obligate you to participation in any focus group.
