The Franklin Furnace FUND FOR PERFORMANCE ART 2004-05

Since 1985, Franklin Furnace has awarded grants to emerging artists, allowing them to produce major work in New York in the coming year. This year, seven performance artists/collaborators will receive grants of $4000 each. The Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance art is supported by New York State Council on the Arts and Jerome Foundation in celebration of the Jerome Hill Centenial and in recognition of the valuable cultural contributions of artists to society.

This year Franklin Furnace received over 200 proposals from 25 countries. Franklin Furnace has no curator; each year a new panel of artists reviews all proposals. We believe that this peer panel system allows all kinds of artists from all over the world an equal shot at presenting their work. This year's esteemed selection panel of artists, Zhang-Ga, Julia Heyward, Yael Kanarek, James Scruggs, and Juana Valdes met on June 23rd, 24th, and 25th, 2004.
